Equitable Food Initiative (EFI)
Responsibly grown. Farmworker assured.
The Equitable Food Initiative (EFI) brings together workers, growers and retailers in an effort to produce better fruits and vegetables. As produce farms comply with the EFI Standard—for improved working conditions, pesticide management, and food safety—the entire food system sees benefits, all the way from farm workers to consumers.
The heart of the program is training a core leadership team of workers and managers. EFI involves farmworkers in the design and implementation of safety protocols, and trains them to work with management to reduce pesticide and pathogen risks. In addition, EFI ensures decent treatment of workers through rigorous standards.
The program presents an opportunity for the produce industry to assure consumers that their fruit and vegetables have been grown in ways that respect workers and reduce potential for transmission of food-borne illness. EFI certification means that farmworkers have been trained to identify and isolate threats to food safety; and indicates that they have access to hygienic facilities and the equipment required to minimize food safety risks.
California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF)
Foods that are certified organic are produced according to the federal standards set by the USDA National Organic Program (NOP). Organic standards promote and enhance biodiversity, biological cycles and soil fertility, and restore, maintain, and enhance ecological harmony. The purpose of organic inspections is to confirm that NOP standards and regulations are adhered to, both before and after certification. Inspectors, in this case CCOF, review applications, called Organic System Plans (OSP), to ensure that they match what is actually happening in practice.

The PrimusGFS scheme covers the scope of the supply chain from pre- and to post- farm gate production and provides an integrated supply chain approach.
Secretaria de Desarrollo Social y Humano
“Secretaria de Desarrollo Social y Humano” (SEDESOL) is the Mexican Secretary of Social and Human Development Services. The main purpose of this agency is to assist in creating equal socioeconomic opportunities for all workers and underprivileged families. Farms that wish to receive grants from SEDESOL need to prove both compliance with all federal and state laws, and implementation of measures that offer workers opportunities for social development. Our farms have received funding to build daycare centers, classrooms, and housing facilities.
