Strawberries and cream

an English summertime tradition
England (UK)
A dish of strawberries and cream is as essential a part of watching tennis at Wimbledon, rowing at Henley, or racing at Ascot as a hot dog is at a World Series baseball game.

In England, the cream of choice is double cream, but it may be hard to find at your local store. Heavy whipping cream is a fine substitute when double cream is unavailable.

Ingredients

  1 pint fresh strawberries
  Pinch of white sugar
Double cream or heavy whipping cream

Instructions

Wash and hull strawberries. Slice in half or add whole strawberries to bowl. Sprinkle with a little sugar, a little goes a long way, especially if the strawberries are already sweet. Pour cream over strawberries.

Fun Variations

Toss in some blackberries, raspberries, and/or blueberries.
